In fall 2008 Charley Faulkenberry and Pamela Jones were sent by their respective congregations to a three day workshop at Wake Forest Divinity School titled “Building an Inclusive Church.” They spent those three days with like minded people from faith communities around the country, sharing the history of their personal journey, their church, and their hopes for the future. As the weekend ended Charley and Pamela, having become friends, looked at each other and said: “what next?” They kept in touch and shared ideas. They both agreed there is no greater need than bridging the chasm between the LGBT community and the church. Ultimately the “what next” became the Charlotte Interfaith Connection. Our first meeting was in January 2009. Since then we have embarked on several projects and partnerships to build that bridge and close that chasm.
